The Big Three

When saving an image, you're usually presented with a few choices. Here is what you need to know.

1. JPG (JPEG)

Best for: Photographs and realistic images.

JPG uses "lossy" compression, meaning it throws away some data to keep file sizes small. It's perfect for photos where slight imperfections aren't noticeable.

Tip: Use our PNG to JPG converter to save space.

2. PNG

Best for: Graphics, logos, and screenshots.

PNG uses "lossless" compression. It preserves every detail and supports transparency (transparent backgrounds). However, file sizes can be larger.

3. WebP

Best for: Websites.

WebP is a modern format developed by Google. It offers the best of both worlds: smaller file sizes than JPG with the transparency support of PNG.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Printing: Use JPG (high quality) or PNG.
  • Web: Use WebP for speed.
  • Logos: Always use PNG to keep the background transparent.
